Christmas is not primarily about getting or giving presents, but it is primarily a celebration of Christ’s presence.

Getting and Giving Presents

Although Christmas is not primarily about getting or giving presents, it’s not a bad tradition. The greatest Gift that was ever given was Jesus Christ. We celebrate the birth of Jesus, the greatest Gift, on December 25th. Accordingly, since Jesus was a gift, giving presents fits perfectly within the celebration of Christmas.

Christ’s Presence

Christmas is not primarily about getting or giving presents, but it is primarily a celebration of Christ’s presence.

The first chapter of Matthew’s Gospel records the words, “…they will call Him Immanuel, which means “God with us.””

The final chapter of Matthew’s Gospel records the words, “I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

The point is that Jesus is with us always!

As Christians, we celebrate the reality that Christ is present with us every day in a personal way, every Sunday with our local church communities, and annually as all believers of Jesus Christ on Christmas Day!

So, as we receive and give gifts during this upcoming Christmas season, let us remember that the greatest Gift ever given was Jesus Christ; Who was, Who is, and Who is to come!
